Carbon Recycling? Yup, you heard that right. Carbon Capture and Utilization (CCU) converts CO2 into products like plastics, concrete, biofuel, etc.

Carbon Capture and Utilization (CCU) is a broad term used to describe the many different ways that captured CO2 can be reused to produce economically valuable products or services. Think of it as carbon recycling.
CCU is different from Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) (see week 12) because it does not offer permanent geological storage of carbon dioxide. CCU converts this CO2 into products like plastics, concrete, biofuel, etc.
CCU is a climate solution because it operates with the goal of achieving negative emissions — when we are removing more CO2 from the air than we’re emitting.
The Net Zero Life Podcast’s most recent episode is a deep dive into the CCU company, Carbon Upcycling Technologies. They’re the first company to reduce cement and concrete’s carbon footprint by double digits.
Similarly, companies like Algenol Biofuels, Blue Planet Systems, Carbicrete, Carbon Engineering, CFOAM, Lanza Tech, and many more are doing their part to get more CO2 out of the air.
