Energy and Grid

Senior Power Market Engineer

Company

Our client is a well-established energy software and analytics company helping power market participants, utilities, asset managers, and traders make better decisions in increasingly complex electricity markets.

The company builds data-driven products used to model, forecast, and explain market behavior across U.S. power markets. They have strong engineering and data science resources in place and are looking to add deeper subject matter expertise around power market modeling, congestion, LMPs, dispatch, and market dynamics.

Role

This role sits at the intersection of power markets, modeling, product, and engineering. You will help improve software products used to model electricity markets, validate market outputs, and explain market behavior to internal teams and sophisticated customers.

The work will include analyzing LMPs, congestion, constraints, dispatch, market outcomes, and production cost model outputs. You will partner closely with engineering, data science, product, and customer-facing teams to translate market expertise into better software and clearer insights.

This is not a pure software engineering role. The core need is deep electricity market expertise, with enough technical fluency to work effectively with product and engineering teams.

The role can be remote within the U.S., with occasional travel for internal meetings or customer/product events.

About You

You likely come from a power market software company, market analytics provider, ISO/RTO, trading analytics team, asset optimization group, consulting firm, or energy market modeling environment.

You bring hands-on experience with electricity market modeling, market simulation, power market analytics, or production cost modeling. You understand how market fundamentals, transmission constraints, generator behavior, load, outages, fuel prices, renewables, and market rules influence prices and model outputs.

Relevant experience may include:

  • U.S. power markets such as PJM, MISO, SPP, ERCOT, CAISO, NYISO, or ISO-NE
  • LMPs, congestion, constraint analysis, FTRs/CRRs, or nodal market behavior
  • Unit commitment, economic dispatch, DC power flow, or production cost modeling
  • Tools such as PLEXOS, PROMOD, Aurora, DAYZER, PROBE, PowerWorld, GridView, Pyomo, CPLEX, Gurobi, GAMS, or similar
  • Python, SQL, model validation, optimization, or data analysis workflows

This is a strong fit for someone who enjoys being the bridge between deep power market expertise and software product development.
