It's time for this week's "1-Min Climate Snippet" & we're focusing on Nature-Based Solutions. Companies like Pachama and Running Tide harness the power of nature to protect, restore, & manage ecosystems to enhance biodiversity.
The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) defines nature-based solutions as “actions to protect, sustainably manage, and restore natural or modified ecosystems, that address societal challenges effectively and adaptively, simultaneously providing human well-being and biodiversity benefits.”
In simple terms, a nature-based solution in ClimateTech is any technology that enhances or stabilizes nature’s way of drawing down carbon. These solutions protect, restore, and manage ecosystems to enhance their resiliency which in turn protects biodiversity and human wellbeing.
Nature-based solutions range from reforestation innovation to kelp farms, and everything in between.
Check out these companies to see how they are using their solutions to address the climate crisis: Running Tide and Pachama.
On Tuesday, the IPCC's Sixth Assessment Report (AR6) was released, representing the most comprehensive scientific evaluation of climate change.
In response to a changing climate, we must create technologies and infrastructure improvements that are designed to mitigate and/or withstand the effects.
